Maid of Sker is a survival horror game based on Welsh folklore that is, appropriately, pronounced 'made of scare'. The story goes that the 'real' maid of Sker, Elizabeth Williams, fell in love with a musician named Thomas Evans. Her father, not happy with the match, forbade them from getting married. Elizabeth, distraught, wrote to Thomas in the hope of rescue, but her dad literally set the dogs loose on him and she never saw him again. Elizabeth, forced to live out her life in an unhappy marriage, has spent her death haunting the house. In this game, you have the opportunity to do things differently. As Thomas, you must creep through a house overrun by monsters to piece together a musical composition and set Elizabeth free. Maid of Sker is a game that's big on atmosphere, having you explore the creaking old house and bits of the surrounding landscape, solving puzzles and trying, ever so quietly, to stay ahead of the beasts that want to murder you. The score, in particular, is a highlight, contributing to a package that will have your spine tingling.
