In the past, games based on the novels of Tom Clancy have enjoyed as much success as the books themselves. Developed by Red Storm, the original Rainbow Six brought with it a new depth to the PC first-person shooter and has since grown into a series, featuring numerous sequels and expansion packs. Red Storm's latest Tom Clancy game is based on the novel The Sum of All Fears, which has also been recently made into a Hollywood blockbuster. Sticking closely with that of the film, the game's plot goes as follows: On New Year's Eve, a band of renegade militia members from the hills of West Virginia seize a television station and broadcast their demands on the air. The FBI's Hostage Rescue Team is subsequently called in to deal with the situation. But this is only the first in a series of events that will take the team members from the mountains of West Virginia to the diamond mines of South Africa, and from the deserts of the Middle East to the corridors of power and wealth in Austria. At stake is the future of the free world, as terrorists unleash the most destructive weapon known to mankind. In the game, players lead a team of domestic counter-terrorism experts through 11 dangerous mission that span the globe. Formed from the elite of the FBI's HRT, they have been trained to perform covert ops in the most dangerous circumstances imaginable. As the commander of this team, players lead their unit into the heat of battle, performing missions ranging from eliminating terrorists to planting bugs, and from destroying illegal weapons caches to rescuing hostages.
