In a dystopian cyberpunk future populated by robots, you play as... a cat. Not a magic cat. Not a cybernetically enhanced cat. Not a mutant cat. A regular, run-of-the-mill (though fairly intelligent) household cat. Stray is, in short, adorable. At heart Stray is a platformer, making clever use of your feline form to have you navigate the neon-drenched city. Being a foot tall and having four legs gives you a very different POV to your average plaftormer, and Stray's developers take great delight in playing with that. Nooks and crannies are delightful to explore, while vertical elements open up parts of the city you wouldn't normally be able to get at. Stray keeps you on your toes with a steady flow of new ideas and environments - tense chase sequences have you running away from creatures called zurks, stealth sections have you staying out of sight of drones and puzzles might have you manipulating AI to act in your favour. Mixed in with the platforming is a charming narrative that feels almost like a point and click adventure, with Stray's NPC robots unusually willing to chat with you. It's this light, occasionally whimsical touch that makes what could have been just-another-dystopian-game a unique and charming adventure.
